Peril from 'patriots': The LA Times spews anti-patriot propaganda and reguritates the Obaman party line

There are, in increasingly frightening numbers, cells of angry men in the United States preparing for combat with the U.S. government. They are usually heavily armed, blinded by an intractable hatred, often motivated by religious zeal.

They're not jihadists. They are white, right-wing Americans, nearly all with an obsessive attachment to guns, who may represent a greater danger to the lives of American civilians than international terrorists.

The Southern Poverty Law Center, which has been tracking hate groups for 30 years, released its latest report on the growth of these organizations this week. Its findings were, to say the least, alarming. The center divides its subjects into militias, which are mostly groups of weekend warriors who train for combat against imaginary foes; hate groups, which target minorities; and "patriot" groups, whose beef is with the U.S. government. Patriot groups first began surfacing after the massacre of a bizarre sect by federal agents in Waco, Texas, in the early 1990s. They showed their teeth in 1995, when a patriot adherent blew up the federal building in Oklahoma City.

Voters back the Coalition's cuts plan until they find out 'toxic' George Osborne is behind it

The government’s economic plan would be more popular with voters if George Osborne was not the Chancellor, damning new polling reveals.

Ahead of next week’s crunch Budget, a survey shows his plan to tackle the nation’s debts is backed by more than half of people until they find out he is the architect.

More than a quarter of those who say they support the government’s position change their mind when they find out it means agreeing with Mr Osborne, who was famously booed at last year's Paralympics.

Toby Hayden, 27, flew into a rage in Chippenham, Wiltshire, after being told he had insufficient funds and repeatedly battered Loretta Butterworth, 22, in the face. The brutal assault only ended when a mother and daughter heard Loretta screaming 'please help me' as Hayden held her with one hand and hit her with the other. Germany bans three 'anti-democratic' Islamist groups

Authorities in Germany have banned three Islamist groups, accusing them of being "anti-democratic" and seeking to impose sharia law.

DawaFFM, Islamische Audios and An-Nussrah all adhere to ultra-conservative Salafist doctrine.

Police mounted raids against the groups on Wednesday, but no arrests were made.

German officials have said videos produced by DawaFFM partly inspired the man who shot dead two US airmen at Frankfurt airport in 2011.

Iran Test-Fires Short-Range Missiles...

Iranian media say the military has test-fired several short-range missiles, including the type Palestinian militant Hamas group used to attack Tel Aviv last November.

Thursday's report by the semi-official Fars news agency says the missiles were tested during an army exercise in central Iran. It says the missiles fired were Nazeat-10 and Fajr-5.

During weeks of fighting in November, Gaza's Hamas rulers fired Iranian-made Fajr-5 rockets that came close to Israel's heartland, including the cities of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem for the first time.

Feds recaptured 4 immigrants released under budget cuts

The Obama administration said Thursday it has rearrested and brought back four of the most dangerous immigrants it released from detention last month in the run-up to the budget sequester cuts.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director John Morton testified to Congress that his agency released 10 “level one” offenders, and has gone out and brought four of them back in. He said the other six are non-violent.

Mr. Morton also acknowledged that overall, 2,228 immigrants were released — far more than the several hundred the agency had initially admitted to.

Census: Record 1 in 3 US counties are now dying

A record number of U.S. counties - more than 1 in 3 - are now dying off, hit by an aging population and weakened local economies that are spurring young adults to seek jobs and build families elsewhere.

New 2012 census estimates released Thursday highlight the population shifts as the U.S. encounters its most sluggish growth levels since the Great Depression.

The findings also reflect the increasing economic importance of foreign-born residents as the U.S. ponders an overhaul of a major 1965 federal immigration law. Without new immigrants, many metropolitan areas such as New York, Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburgh and St. Louis would have posted flat or negative population growth in the last year.

ANDREW PIERCE: The view of an increasing number of senior ministers is that the Coalition is a mistake — and that David Cameron, far from being an asset, is the reason that the party’s support slumped at the weekend to a new low of 27 points, with only seven per cent of Tory supporters believing they can win the election. Training for 'all-out war' with the West: North Korea uses live artillery in drills near border

The exercise was personally supervised by leader Kim Jong Un, who has issued a series of inflammatory threats against South Korea and the U.S. in recent days. Private Prisons: The More Americans They Put Behind Bars The More Money They Make

How would you describe an industry that wants to put more Americans in prison and keep them there longer so that it can make more money? In America today, approximately 130,000 people are locked up in private prisons that are being run by for-profit companies, and that number is growing very rapidly. Overall, the U.S. has approximately 25 percent of the entire global prison population even though it only has 5 percent of the total global population.

The United States has the highest incarceration rate on the entire globe by far, and no nation in the history of the world has ever locked up more of its own citizens than we have. Are we really such a cesspool of filth and decay that we need to lock up so many of our own people? Or are there some other factors at work? Could part of the problem be that we have allowed companies to lock up men and women in cages for profit? The two largest private prison companies combined to bring in close to $3,000,000,000 in revenue in 2010, and the largest private prison companies have spent tens of millions of dollars on lobbying and campaign contributions over the past decade. Putting Americans behind bars has become very big business, and those companies have been given a perverse incentive to push for even more Americans to be locked up. It is a system that is absolutely teeming with corruption, and it is going to get a lot worse unless someone does something about it.

One of the keys to success in the private prison business it to get politicians to vote your way. That is why the big private prison companies spend so much money on lobbying and campaign contributions.

Obama's first presidential visit to Israel next week, while certainly including meetings with Netanyahu, will focus heavily on resetting his relationship with the country's wary public as he seeks to reassure them he is committed to their security and has their interests at heart.

What is the mystery military plane flying over Florida? Residents report 'Army' aircraft over their homes but officials DENY forces were in area

Residents of a Florida city now believe that they have spotted unidentified flying objects because the ruled out all other options.

The people of Ocala, Florida claim to have seen a military style aircraft flying over the city, but Navy officials have denied any knowledge of their planes being used in the area at the time of the supposed sightings.

Local station WKPMG reported that the concerned residents described a true spectacle and not simply one rounded disk of an airplane.

They allege that the unidentified eyewitnesses saw a mystery aircraft that was flanked by an uncertain number of helicopters flying around it.
The last spotting of the supposed space craft came early Monday morning between 2am and 3am.

A logical conclusion- especially because the scene that the witnesses saw was apparently similar to that of military aircrafts- was that a military test of sorts or envoy was sent over the area.

U.S. intelligence officials tracking Russian 'ghost ship' that's floating adrift in Atlantic Ocean and is 'inhabited only by rats'

A rat-infested Russian cruise ship cast adrift in the Atlantic Ocean has caught the eye of U.S. intelligence officials, who are keeping tabs on the abandoned vessel.

The MV Lyubov Orlova - named after a Soviet actress - was being towed to the Dominican Republic from Newfoundland, Canada, to be scrapped in January when the cable snapped.

The Orlova slipped away as the crew on board the towing ship battled howling winds and 10-foot waves to try in vain to reconnect the line - and it drifted away.

Physicists who found a new elementary particle last year said on Wednesday it looked like a basic Higgs boson rather than any "super-Higgs" that some cosmologists had hoped might open up more exotic secrets of the universe.

His assertion, on a slide presentation to a conference at CERN and posted on the Internet, was echoed by the other group. "So far, it is looking like an SM Higgs boson," said slides from Colin Bernet of CMS.

The Obama administration is drawing up plans to give all U.S. spy agencies full access to a massive database that contains financial data on American citizens and others who bank in the country, according to a Treasury Department document seen by Reuters.

The proposed plan represents a major step by U.S. intelligence agencies to spot and track down terrorist networks and crime syndicates by bringing together financial databanks, criminal records and military intelligence. The plan, which legal experts say is permissible under U.S. law, is nonetheless likely to trigger intense criticism from privacy advocates.

Quebec language police threaten Italian restaurant for having 'too many foreign words' on the menu... including 'PASTA'

Fierce laws brought in to protect the French language in Quebec are under the spotlight after a recent spate of rulings - including a restaurant that was condemned for using the word 'pasta'.

The Office Quebecois de la Langue Francaise is the body responsible for 'safeguarding' the region's French language, which is spoken by 94 per cent of people in the region.

But recent rulings have prompted ridicule from the English-speaking minority.

It follows a spate of draconian decisions, including:

Euro-MPs reject calls to cut vast Brussels budget and instead demand Britain stumps up MORE cash

David Cameron’s hard-fought deal on the EU budget was dealt a blow by Liberal Democrat MEPs last night when they voted for the package to be renegotiated.

MEPs have overwhelmingly rejected the seven-year £ 787 billion pounds deal thrashed out by national leaders last month after marathon talks lasting 32 hours.

North Korea's leader oversees artillery fire near disputed islands

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un supervised a live artillery drill close to a disputed sea border with South Korea, state news agency KCNA reported on Thursday, in the latest sign of increased tensions between the two Koreas.

KCNA did not specify when the drill took place. The border is seen as the most likely site of any clash between the North, which has stepped up military preparations in response to being sanctioned for its February nuclear test, and South Korea.

North Korea has threatened a nuclear war with the United States in response to new United Nations sanctions and to strike back at South Korea and the United States during military drills that the two allies are holding.

Thousands of dead fish wash up on shores of Brazilian lagoon

Thousands of dead fish washed up on the shores of the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, a Rio de Janeiro tourist attraction, Brazilian authorities said Wednesday.

A large amount of organic matter that entered the lagoon as a result of two recent large storms consumed oxygen and brought it down to critically low levels, Carlos Alberto Muniz, the municipal environment secretary, told Efe.

This situation caused a massive die-off of shad, whose number had risen since mid-February after the fish had entered the lagoon to spawn, Muniz said.
