‘No Emergencies’ Reported After Bright Light Seen In SoCal Skies

A streak of light that apparently sparked several reports across Southern California was not considered to be a public threat, according to fire officials.

Over 40 reports from eyewitnesses around the Southland and statewide reported the sight to the American Meteor Society (AMS) around approximately 10:30 p.m. on Thursday night.

Residents from cities as far north as Sacramento, Pismo Beach and Santa Barbara and as far south as Malibu and Costa Mesa reported a “brief tail of light” – described as everything from blue to white to bright green in color – traveling in a east-southeast to west-northwest direction across the night sky.

Sightings were also reported in Montebello, Anaheim, Palm Desert, Alhambra, Canyon Country, Arcadia, Laguna Niguel, Burbank, Van Nuys, Glendale, Pasadena, San Fernando, and other cities.

IT BEGINS: Firearms Companies Restricting Sales To GOVERNMENT Agencies In Areas That Restrict Gun Rights

A growing number of firearm and firearm-related companies have stated they will no longer sell items to states, counties, cities and municipalities that restrict their citizens' rights to own them.

According to The Police Loophole, 34 companies have joined in publicly stating that governments who seek to restrict 2nd Amendment rights will themselves be restricted from purchasing the items they seek to limit or ban.

Extreme Firepower Inc., located in Inwood, WV has had a longstanding policy that states:

"The Federal Government and several states have enacted gun control laws that restrict the public from owning and possessing certain types of firearms...If a product that we manufacture is not legal for a private citizen to own in a jurisdiction, we will not sell that product to a law-enforcement agency in that jurisdiction."

North Korea set to conduct intermediate-range missile test

North Korea appears to be preparing for a test launch of a new intermediate-range ballistic missile that would further heighten tensions in the region following an underground nuclear test earlier this month.

Test preparations for the launch of a road-mobile Musudan intermediate-range ballistic missile were spotted recently by U.S. intelligence agencies.

Signs at a remote missile base include indicators of fueling for the road-mobile Musudan missile, classified as an intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM), said officials familiar with intelligence reports.

Italian election: Surge in popularity for eurosceptic protest party headed by stand-up comedian Beppe Grillo raises fears in EU

The political establishment in both Italy and the EU was quaking today after claims that a eurosceptic protest party headed by a stand-up comedian, would finish with the second largest share of the vote when Italians go to the polls this weekend.

Secret research conducted by the centre-left Democratic Party suggests the Five Star protest movement of comic Beppe Grillo, which wants a referendum on Euro membership, has continued to surge in popularity since official polls were halted in the run up to the general election.

Egypt 'spent £1.7m on teargas' amid economic crisis....No wonder they need a Loan from the IMF

Egypt spent the equivalent of £1.7m on 140,000 US-sourced teargas canisters last month, despite the Egyptian government nearing bankruptcy – and amid a wave of police brutality that 21 human rights groups this week labelled a return to Mubarak-era state repression.

Egypt's interior ministry made the emergency order at the end of January, according to records retrieved by Egyptian broadsheet al-Masry al-Youm. It came at the start of a week of civil unrest sparked by protests against President Mohamed Morsi, his Muslim Brotherhood, and police malpractice.

Syrian People outraged over the Latest Civilian Casualties at the Hands of Rebel Terrorists

In the aftermath of a deadly bombing in Damascus on Thursday, a man emerged from a small knot of bystanders crowded around a camera crew from Syrian state television to vent his anger at the foreign Islamist fighters he held responsible. “We the Syrian people,” he said, “place the blame on the Nusra Front, the Takfiri oppressors and armed Wahhabi terrorists from Saudi Arabia that are armed and trained in Turkey.”

Pointing at the ruined street near the headquarters of President Bashar al-Assad’s ruling Baath Party, the man described the location as “a civilian place — a mosque, an elementary school, the homes of local families.”

Washington: SIX Underground Tanks At US Nuclear Plant Leaking

Six underground radioactive waste tanks at a nuclear site in the state of Washington are leaking, the state's governor has said.

Governor Jay Inslee made the announcement after meeting with federal officials in Washington DC.

Last week it was revealed that one of the 177 tanks at south-central Washington's Hanford Nuclear Reservation was leaking liquids.

Inslee called the latest news "disturbing".

The tanks, which already are long past their intended 20-year life span, hold millions of gallons of a highly radioactive stew left from decades of plutonium production for nuclear weapons.

Pentagon Grounds Fleet Of F-35 Fighter Jets

The Pentagon has grounded the US military's entire fleet of F-35 fighter jets after discovering a cracked engine blade in one plane.

The problem was discovered during what the Pentagon called a routine inspection of an F-35A, the Air Force's version of the new plane.

The Navy and the Marine Corps are buying other versions of the F-35, which is intended to replace older fighter jets like the Air Force F-16 and the Navy F/A-18.

UK Loses AAA Rating

Rating agency Moody's has cut Britain's debt rating from the top-grade AAA to AA1, citing slow growth and a rising debt burden.

Moody's said the main reason for the downgrade was "increasing clarity that, despite considerable structural economic strengths, the UK's economic growth will remain sluggish over the next few years."

The downgrade by one notch could make it more difficult for Britain to borrow on international markets.

China admits pollution-linked 'cancer villages'

China's environment ministry has acknowledged the existence of "cancer villages", several years after widespread speculation first began that polluted areas were seeing a higher incidence of the disease.

The use of the term in an official report, thought to be unprecedented, comes as authorities face growing discontent over industrial waste, hazardous smog and other environmental and health consequences after years of rapid development.

"Poisonous and harmful chemical materials have brought about many water and atmosphere emergencies... certain places are even seeing 'cancer villages'," said a five-year plan that was highlighted this week.

The report did not elaborate on the phenomenon, which has no technical definition but gained prominence in domestic and foreign media after a Chinese journalist posted a map in 2009 pinpointing dozens of such "cancer villages".

Spain, France to miss debt goals as euro zone stays in recession

The euro zone will not return to growth until 2014 and struggling Spain and France will be among those who miss debt-cutting targets as a result, the European Commission said on Friday.

Paris and Lisbon said they would seek more time from Brussels to reach their deficit goals. Madrid has already indicated the same.

The EU's executive said the euro zone economy, which generates nearly a fifth of global output, would shrink 0.3 percent in 2013 after a 0.6 percent fall last year, blaming a lack of bank lending and record joblessness for delaying the recovery.

Snake Island To Be 'Bombed' by the US With Poison Mice

The US is to bomb the tiny territory of Guam with dead mice laced with painkiller in an attempt to kill off the brown tree snakes that have taken over the island.

The reptiles, which can grow to be more than 10ft (3m), have caused misery on the territory for 60 years, since they were unwittingly introduced by US military ships after World War Two.

Now there are serious fears they could slither on to planes at the US military base and hitch a lift to Hawaii, where they would decimate the island's wildlife.

Thousands May Have Been Exposed To Deadly TB Epidemic Downtown

The feds are descending on downtown Los Angeles to combat a dangerous outbreak of a drug-resistant strain of tuberculosis.

KCAL9′s Jeff Nguyen went downtown in search of people who may have been exposed.

John Williams started living at the Weingart shelter on LA’s Skid Row two weeks ago. Before he could be admitted, he had to undergo a screening for tuberculosis.

“They make you go get checked before you get into one of these programs because they don’t want it spread out in there,” Williams said.

This comes on page 2 of the VA letter.

Constitutional Attorney Michael Connelly, J.D. reported this at Red Flag News.

How would you feel if you received a letter from the U.S. Government informing you that because of a physical or mental condition that the government says you have it is proposing to rule that you are incompetent to handle your own financial affairs? Suppose that letter also stated that the government is going to appoint a stranger to handle your affairs for you at your expense? That would certainly be scary enough but it gets worse.

What if that letter also stated: “A determination of incompetency will prohibit you from purchasing, possessing, receiving, or transporting a firearm or ammunition. If you knowingly violate any of these prohibitions, you may be fined, imprisoned, or both pursuant to the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act, Pub.L.No. 103-159, as implemented at 18, United States Code 924(a)(2).”?

That makes is sound like something right from a documentary on a tyrannical dictatorship somewhere in the world. Yet, as I write this I have a copy of such a letter right in front of me.

Syrian opposition says Assad cannot be part of deal

The opposition Syrian National Coalition is willing to negotiate a peace deal to end the country's civil war but President Bashar al-Assad must step down and cannot be a party to any settlement, members agreed after debating a controversial initiative by their president.

The meeting of the 70-member Western, Arab and Turkish-backed coalition began on Thursday before Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moualem is due for talks in Moscow, one of Assad's last foreign allies, and as U.N. mediator Lakhdar Brahimi renews efforts for a deal.

Egypt protest group signs Morsi up to go to space

Egyptian opposition group finds a novel way to protest against president: Sign him up for space travel contest

The April 6 Youth Movement said on its official Facebook page Thursday that it had entered the Islamist leader's name in the online contest because it wanted to be rid of him. It called on supporters to vote for the president so he'd have a chance to win the trip into space.

Fuel Prices 'Head For Highest Level Ever'

Motorists have been warned that petrol prices may soon reach their highest level ever.

The AA said Sterling's slide and market speculation could push prices to record levels by Easter.

The warning comes as tanker drivers at the Grangemouth refinery, which supplies Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England, begin a three-day strike in a row over pay and pensions.

'Zombie' cells are created in lab... and they outperform their living counterparts

It may sound like something from a science fiction film, but scientists say they have created 'zombie cells' - that continue to work after they are dead.

But unlike the walking dead of Hollywood, these cells actually perform some functions better than when they were alive.

Scientists say by coating organic cells in silicic acid they are able to withstand far greater temperatures and pressures than flesh.

Day-release prisoners caught with wads of cash near robbery (... but prosecutors say there isn't enough evidence to charge them)

Kenneth Gillespie, 59, (right) could not be prosecuted due to a lack of evidence despite being found with cash which is linked to a robbery on a security van parked outside a McDonald's, in Ipswich, Suffolk. The £5,500 is thought to have been part of £17,000 stolen from a G4S security guard by three suspects including Gillespie and a man with one leg (left and centre).

Giant sunspot that's SIX TIMES the diameter of Earth has formed in less than 48 hours - and could lead to solar flares

A giant sunspot that is at least six times the diameter of Earth has formed on the Sun in less than 48 hours, Nasa has announced.

Sunspots are dark spots on the surface of the Sun which appear as turbulent magnetic fields in its surface rearrange and realign.

The massive sunspot, which formed over the course of Tuesday and Wednesday, quickly evolved into an unstable configuration, and could lead to solar flares, which can interrupt our radio communications.

NHS spends £15million (the same as 750 nurses' salaries) on gagging 600 whistleblowers

The NHS spent £15million in three years on gagging whistleblowers, the Mail can reveal today.

The shocking figures pile the pressure on NHS chief executive Sir David Nicholson, who has clung to his £270,000 role despite presiding over the Mid Staffordshire hospital scandal that cost the lives of 1,200 patients.

In just three years there were 598 ‘special severance payments’, almost all of which carried draconian confidentiality clauses aimed at silencing whistleblowers.

They cost the taxpayer £14.7million, the equivalent of almost 750 nurses’ salaries.

100,000 'hard core' criminals have at least 15 convictions - and the number is rising

A hardened core of 100,000 criminals convicted last year already had at least 15 offences to their names.

This group of serial offenders is growing and now contains more than one in three of all criminals coming before the courts.

Worryingly, official figures show that less than four in ten were sent to jail last year, despite their lengthy criminal records.

The number of offenders with such prolific records has shot up by more than 50 per cent in a decade.

Taxman names and shames plumbers and hairdressers: Small firms targeted while the corporate giants are STILL going unpunished

Revenue chiefs are naming and shaming tax dodging small firms while multinationals avoid paying billions.

Nine ordinary business people, including a hairdresser and a coach operator, were listed by HMRC as part of a scheme to highlight deliberate defaulters.

The idea is that the stigma of appearing on the list, to be updated every three months, will persuade those thinking of avoiding tax to pay up.
