Video: Cop Lands Helicopter to Harass Woman

A San Bernardino police officer piloting a helicopter was caught on camera circling a lone woman in the desert, before landing the chopper and then proceeding to harass her in a ridiculous example of how police resources are being wasted to shake down innocent people.

The clip begins with the police helicopter making numerous over flights of the woman as she films the chopper.

The helicopter then shines a light in the direction of the woman as it hovers lower and prepares to land. The chopper lands and the pilot, an officer with the San Bernardino Sheriff’s office, approaches the woman and asks her what she is doing.

“Just exploring and picking up rocks,” the woman responds.

The cop then demands the woman’s ID to which she responds she doesn’t have any. When the woman asks why he is questioning her, the cop responds, “We’re investigating something right now.”

Tunisia: Protests As PM Threatens To Resign

The Tunisian Prime Minister has threatened to resign if he fails to form a new government within next few days.

Hamadi Jebali has offered to form a new technocratic government in the wake of the assassination of the opposition leader Chokri Belaid.

It would be a key concession to the opposition who have been protesting against the Islamist government since the murder of Mr Belaid outside his home in broad daylight on Wednesday.

German Minister Quits Over Plagiarism Scandal

Germany's education minister has resigned after being accused of plagiarism over three decades ago and having her doctorate withdrawn.

Annette Schavan, a close ally and confidante of Chancellor Angela Merkel, was stripped of her doctorate by her former university earlier this week after it was claimed she had plagiarised parts of her thesis over 30 years ago. The minister denies the allegations.

Duesseldorf's Heinrich Heine University decided to revoke her PhD following a review of her 1980 thesis after an anonymous blogger last year raised plagiarism allegations.

Horsemeat Scandal Is An 'International Conspiracy'

Environment Secretary Owen Paterson has told Sky News an "international conspiracy" could be at the centre of the horsemeat scandal, and police might begin an investigation.

He made the comments following an emergency meeting with food producers, leading supermarkets and the Food Standards Agency (FSA) in central London.

Mr Paterson said it had been agreed that there would be "a very rapid analysis of current products", with results by the end of next week, to understand "the extent of this problem which is either caused by gross incompetence or what I suspect is actually an international criminal conspiracy".

Christopher Jordan Dorner's Uncensored Manifesto, all 11,000 words of it

I know most of you who personally know me are in disbelief to hear from media reports that I am suspected of committing such horrendous murders and have taken drastic and shocking actions in the last couple of days. You are saying to yourself that this is completely out of character of the man you knew who always wore a smile wherever he was seen. I know I will be villified by the LAPD and the media. Unfortunately, this is a necessary evil that I do not enjoy but must partake andcomplete for substantial change to occur within the LAPD and reclaim my name. The department has not changed since the Rampart and Rodney King days. It has gotten worse. The consent decree should never have been lifted. The only thing that has evolved from the consent decree is those officers involved in the Rampart scandal and Rodney King incidents have since promoted to supervisor, commanders, and command staff, and executive positions.

The question is, what would you do to clear your name?

Protests erupt as India executes militant for parliament attack

India hanged a Kashmiri militant on Saturday for an attack on the country's parliament in 2001, sparking clashes in Kashmir between hundreds of protesters and police who wielded batons and fired teargas to disperse the crowds.'

President Pranab Mukherjee rejected a mercy petition from Mohammad Afzal Guru and he was hanged at 8 a.m. (0230 GMT) in Tihar jail in the capital, New Delhi. Security forces anticipating unrest had imposed a curfew in parts of insurgency-torn Kashmir and ordered people off the streets.

Egyptian court orders YouTube block over anti-Islam film

A court in Egypt has ordered that video-sharing website YouTube be blocked for a month for hosting an anti-Islam film that triggered deadly outrage across the Muslim world last year.

The court ruled the authorities must take measures to block access to the site for a month, after a complaint by an Egyptian who accused YouTube of being a "threat to social peace" by putting the US-made film on line.

Horsemeat: Schools And Hospitals To Be Tested

Meals in schools and hospitals will be tested for horsemeat as part of a nationwide probe into processed beef products, the Environment Secretary has told Sky News.

Speaking ahead of an emergency summit with food producers, supermarkets and health officials, Owen Paterson, when asked if it was likely that school and hospital meals contained horsemeat, said: "We will be testing those as well, alongside products in retailers."

The Government has been unable to guarantee that state-provided food does not contain horsemeat.

EU Budget: Beware the European Parliament's veto power

James Forsyth seems as happy as any Tory today, cheered by David Cameron’s prowess in the EU Budget negotiations. Even better for Cameron, he says, is the idea that the European Parliament might veto the deal in a secret vote: this is ‘absurd,’ just a rumour. Even if it does happen, it will only point up how spendthrift the EU really is. All good for Cameron.

Except from where I’m sitting in the European Council press room, it doesn’t look at all absurd that the parliament might veto Cameron’s ‘victory’ budget deal. Martin Schulz, the unpleasant German socialist president of the European Parliament, is looking for a fight on this. And the new powers the Lisbon Treaty gives the parliament over the budget means Schulz can do just that.

Cracks appear in European banking union scheme

It was billed as a reform that would tighten policing of Europe's banks and end their ability to suck states into crisis. Now fears are growing that a central element of banking union will be scaled back, undermining the whole scheme.

When it takes the role of watchdog for euro zone banks in March next year, the European Central Bank will be confronted with a financial system that is still limping. In some countries, such as Cyprus and Spain, it is in critical condition.

Microsoft attacks Google for 'invading Gmail users privacy' by scanning contents of emails to target personalized adverts

Microsoft took a fresh pop at Google yesterday, accusing its rival of invading Gmail users' privacy when scanning the contents of their emails to target them with personalised ads.

The attack, the latest volley in Microsoft's Scroogled campaign, comes with a website and is aimed to boost interest in the veteran software company's Outlook.com email service.

It follows a series of Scroogled adverts last year which targeted Google's controversial privacy policies.

Scientists discover how the body can destroy cancerous tumours itself - without the need for drugs

Scientists have made a key breakthrough in discovering how the body can destroy cancerous tumours itself.

Researchers from Pennsylvania State University have identified a molecule, known as TIC10, which activates a protein that helps fight the disease.

The protein, called TRAIL, suppresses tumour development during immune surveillance, the immune system's process of patrolling the body for cancer cells.

This process is lost during cancer progression, which leads to uncontrolled growth and spread of tumours.
The key benefit of using TRAIL (tumour-necrosis-factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand) as a way to fight cancer is that it is already part of the immune system so it is not toxic to the body like chemotherapy or radiotherapy.

Newtown children's choir is revealed to have no connection to Sandy Hook and is run by former high school teacher accused of stealing

Questions: The children from the Newtown Music Project are seen singing on Good Morning America last month. The group does not have anything to do with Sandy Hook Elementary School

Organisers of a Newtown children's choir that has appeared on Good Morning America are facing accusations they have misled the public - as the group has no formal connection to Sandy Hook.

While the Newtown Music Project features a handful of children from the school, it is organised independently and led by a teacher who quit her job at a Newtown high school after she was accused of theft.

The choir, which has recorded a single of 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' to raise money for the town, will appear on the Grammy's this weekend. It is a separate choir from the Sandy Hook Elementary School choir that performed alongside Jennifer Hudson at the Super Bowl last weekend.

Freedom of speech is a human right - and it trumps copyright, Strasbourg judges rule

Copyright can't stand in the way of the right to freedom of speech.

That's the verdict on a judgement from the European court of Human Rights.

In a ruling from Strasbourg, judges declared that a conviction based on copyright law for illegally reproducing or publicly communicating copyright material can be regarded as interfering with the right of freedom of expression and information.

What this means is that someone violating copyright won't necessarily be convicted: courts will have to justify why a conviction is 'necessary in a democratic society'.

So a prosecutor will have to prove that not only was copyright violated, but that a conviction is necessary.

Cameron wins historic cut in EU's spending but here's the bad news: Thanks to Blair, Britain will end up paying MORE......

David Cameron celebrated a major diplomatic coup in Brussels last night after securing the first EU spending cut in its history.

During 26 hours of talks, the Prime Minister also fought off attempts, led by France, to slash Britain’s rebate.
Mr Cameron’s deal will save UK taxpayers hundreds of millions of pounds on what they would have been forced to pay under the European Commission’s initial plans to increase the budget.

However, our annual contributions will actually increase – because of Tony Blair’s decision to surrender a chunk of the rebate, won by Margaret Thatcher in 1984, in return for reform of agricultural spending which never materialised.

Now Euro MPs want a secret vote to block budget deal and defy the 27 leaders

Euro MPs prompted uproar last night by plotting to try to block the budget deal using a secret ballot so voters cannot hold them to account.

It emerged that they are planning to use a little-understood procedure to allow them to vote in private and defy the 27 EU leaders.

Martin Schulz, president of the European Parliament and former leader of its socialist group, suggested a vote on the budget should be conducted in secret to allow MEPs to break away from prime ministers and party leaders and maximise the chances of it being rejected.

They squeal about cuts but the truth is town halls are spending more than ever - by fleecing you

The hue and cry over the town hall cuts demanded by the Coalition government might give the impression that councils across Britain are on their last legs.

Warnings of libraries closing, services being slashed to the bone and waves of redundancies come repeatedly from the mouths of Labour politicians and the unions, all of it reverentially reported by the BBC.

Anyone listening to this relentless message of doom could be forgiven for thinking that councils are actually being forced, in this age of austerity, to impose drastic curbs on their spending.

Look at the official figures, however, and you will be shocked to see that, far from overall council spending being cut, it is actually still racing upwards by billions of pounds a year.

In the past six years, despite the recession, spending in England alone has risen by more than 25 per cent to an all-time record of more than £170 billion.

Arab Spring-style protests take hold in Iraq

This restive Sunni town, the first to rebel against U.S. troops a decade ago, is rising up once again, this time against the government the Americans left behind.

In an echo of the Arab Spring protests that have overturned regimes elsewhere in the region, angry residents have been staging weekly demonstrations against the Shiite-led government of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, calling, among a host of other demands, for him to step down and for Iraq’s U.S.-brokered constitution to be replaced.

Support grows for U.S. "drone court"

During a fresh round of debate this week over President Barack Obama's claim that he can unilaterally order lethal strikes by unmanned aircraft against U.S. citizens, some lawmakers proposed a middle ground: a special federal "drone court" that would approve suspected militants for targeting.

While the idea of a judicial review of such operations may be gaining political currency, multiple U.S. officials said on Friday that imminent action by the U.S. Congress or the White House to create one is unlikely. The idea is being actively considered, however, according to a White House official.

Assad's forces try to beat back rebels closing on Damascus

Syrian government forces battled on Friday to recapture sections of the Damascus ring road from rebels pressing in on the capital, opposition activists said.

War planes fired rockets around Jobar, Qaboun and Barzeh neighborhoods, the sources said. Heavy fighting was taking place at the Hermalleh junction on the ring road just south of Jobar, which had been seized by the rebels.

Japan may release data proving Chinese radar incident: media

Japan may release data it says will prove a Chinese naval vessel directed its fire control radar at a Japanese destroyer near disputed islands in the East China Sea, local media reported.

Japan has said a Chinese frigate on January 30 locked its targeting radar on a Japanese destroyer - a step that usually precedes the firing of weapons - but China insists that its vessel used only ordinary surveillance radar.

The incident has added to tensions between the two nations over the disputed islands.
