High School Student Faces Expulsion For Writing Poem About Sandy Hook Massacre

After the shooting in Newtown, Conn. left her emotionally traumatized, high school student Courtni Webb vented the best way she knew how, through poetry.

Her poem spoke about the possible motivations that could have inspired Adam Lanza’s murderous rampage, but apparently that was ground not to be treaded on as the school suspended her for it and is threatening to permanently expel her.

Her school, the Life Learning Academy on Treasure Island in San Franscisco, Cali., saw the poem as a threat and said it violated their zero tolerance policy on violence.

Netflix customers' ENTIRE movie rental history to be shared with Facebook...

Netflix users will soon be able to share every film they have watched with their Facebook friends - allowing the social networking giant even more lucrative information on its users' leisure time.

Up until now the Video Privacy Protection Act prohibited Netflix and other streaming services such as Hulu from sharing their customers' history or allowing them to post it themselves.

However, Congress has now passed a bill to the 1988 act that allows users to opt in or out of forthcoming Facebook 'social sharing' features, which let advertisers reach customers who watch movies on the streaming sites but do not 'like' it on those sites.

Brussels plot to make Britain a second-class member of the EU denying country our veto and MEP seats

Britain could become a ‘second-class’ member of the European Union under plans floated in Brussels yesterday.

An influential group of European federalists, who want to see Brussels given even greater powers, is suggesting the UK is relegated to ‘associate member’ status.

The move would see Britain remain part of the single market but freed from much of the social legislation and bureaucracy associated with full EU membership.

EU super-government Monumental deceit: How our politicians have lied and lied about the true purpose of the European behemoth

Forty years ago today, in what was arguably the most fateful political move ever made by a British Prime Minister, Edward Heath took us into what was then called the ‘Common Market’.

Such a step had scarcely been mentioned at the previous General Election, and the British people had very little idea of what they were letting themselves in for, other than a trading arrangement that might make it easier for us to sell our goods to our Continental neighbours.

Four decades later, the picture could scarcely look more different. We have seen that supposedly cosy club we joined transformed, step by step, into a vast, bloated bureaucratic empire, imposing its suffocating rule over 27 nations.

We have also seen it plunged into the most destructive crisis in its history

*********
The real story, surprisingly, goes back to the 1920s, when a senior League of Nations official, Frenchman Jean Monnet, first began to dream of building a ‘United States of Europe’, very much on the lines that decades later would shape the European Union as it is today.

After World War II, Monnet, by then the second most powerful man in France, finally set the project on its way. He knew there was no chance of bringing such an astonishingly ambitious vision into being all at once. So his plan was that it should gradually be constructed, piece by stealthy piece, without ever declaring too openly what was intended to be its ultimate goal.

At first it should be presented as just a trading arrangement, the ‘Common Market’ set up in 1957 by the Treaty of Rome. But the essence of that treaty was to create the core institutions of what Monnet always intended should one day be the ‘Government of Europe’.

UK 'faces a 50-50 risk of suffering triple-dip recession' say economists as they warn of eurozone risk

There is a 50:50 chance that Britain will slide into a devastating triple-dip recession this year, leading economists warn today.

Output ‘probably’ fell in the final three months of 2012 and could do so again in the first three months of 2013, said the Centre for Economics and Business Research.

Another two quarters of decline in a row would mean the third recession in five years and set the scene for another bleak year.

US Benghazi 'failures': report

Think tank warns 2013 could see a repeat of poor economic growth and financial crisis in Europe.

A think tank has warned that 2013 could turn out to be a "groundhog year" with a repeat of sluggish growth and crisis in Europe seen in 2012.

The Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) said that consumer and business spirits have been so thoroughly dampened by talk of years of austerity ahead that the economy mail fail to grown again this year.

In a gloomy New Year message, IPPR chief economist Tony Dolphin said the Government "still does not have a path back to growth" and appeared to be pinning hopes on "something just turning up".

HILLARY CLINTON HOSPITALIZED AMID SPECULATION OF PLANE ACCIDENT IN IRAN

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s admittance to the New York-Presbyterian Hospital Monday, Dec, 31 - with a blood clot caused by concussion - gave wings to a cloud of rumor and conspiracy theories surrounding her state of health. The hospital, where Saudi King Abdullah was also treated two years ago, stated that the Secretary was receiving anti-coagulents and her condition would be assessed after 48 hours.

However, NBC television’s medical correspondent Robert Bazell was skeptical about the blood clot being caused by an earlier concussion because, he said, it if were, it would not be treated with anti-coagulents. “So either it's not really related to the concussion and she’s got a blood clot in her leg or something, or there’s something else going on that we’re not being told.”

Speculation about her condition started flying about in early December, when she cancelled without notice, her participation in the Friends of Syrian forum in Marrakesh on Dec, 6. Not only was she one of the founders of this forum, but her presence was vitally needed at the time because NATO and Washington were picking up suspicious movements of the Syrian army’s chemical weapons, which marked a disastrous turn in the Syrian conflict.

Did North Korea's 'Dear Leader' Kim Jong-il 'die in fit of rage over dam that had sprung a leak'?

The late North Korean leader, Kim Jong-il, died from a heart-attack brought on by a temper tantrum over sloppy work on a crucial power station, reports in a South Korean newspaper claim.

According to unnamed sources quoted in Chosun Ilbo, a conservative national newspaper, Kim Jong-il died in a fit of rage after being briefed about a leak at a hydro-electric power station.

The reports claim that Kim became violently angry after hearing that there was a leak of water at the power station in Huichon, which is about 120 kilometres (75 miles) north of the capital.

The newspaper quotes a source, who asked to remain anonymous, saying: "After being briefed about the leak, Kim Jong-il lambasted officials and ordered them to repair it

"He rushed to make an on-site inspection of the facility unable to contain his anger and died suddenly."

Could Saudi Arabia be next? (Fantastic piece)

Never make predictions in the Middle East. My crystal ball broke long ago. But predicting the region has an honourable pedigree. “An Arab movement, newly-risen, is looming in the distance,” a French traveller to the Gulf and Baghdad wrote in 1883, “and a race hitherto downtrodden will presently claim its due place in the destinies of Islam.” A year earlier, a British diplomat in Jeddah confided that “it is within my knowledge... that the idea of freedom does at present agitate some minds even in Mecca...”

So let’s say this for 2013: the “Arab Awakening” (the title of George Antonius’ seminal work of 1938) will continue, the demand for dignity and freedom – let us not get tramelled up here with “democracy” – will go on ravaging the pseudo-stability of the Middle East, causing as much fear in Washington as it does in the palaces of the Arab Gulf.

On the epic scale of history, that much is certain. At the incendiary core of this discontent will be the claims of a Palestinian state that does not exist and may never exist and the actions of an Israeli state which – through its constant building of colonies for Jews and Jews only on Arab land – ensures that “Palestine” will remain only an Arab dream. If 2012 is anything to go by, the Palestinians themselves face the coming year with the knowledge that: 1) neither the Americans nor the Europeans have the guts to help them, because 2) Israel will continue to act with impunity, and 3) neither the Obamas nor the Camerons nor the Hollandes have the slightest interest in taking on the Likudist lobby, which will scream “anti-semitism” the moment the minutest criticism is made against Israel.
