Syria: Aleppo declaration raises fear of Al Qaeda-inspired groups joining rebels

Fears of the growing influence of Al Qaeda-inspired groups inside Syria increased Monday with the release of video claiming the embattled city of Aleppo is now an “Islamic state” and that 13 radical factions jointly rejected the country’s new opposition coalition.

The statement appears to be a reaction to the Syrian National Coalition for Opposition and Revolutionary Forces, the newly formed alliance of opposition groups trying to overthrow President Bashar Assad’s regime.

Calling it a “foreign project,”

Amazing, thanks guys!

During the reporting of this conflict, the CC has reached the following milestones:

1) More visits than ever before. Our traffic has shot through the roof. Keep passing the word on so we can share this important information! Thanks to our contacts in Israel and Gaza, we've been able to provide a fuller, more objective picture of the unfolding conflict than the mainstream media and most other alternative news outlets.

2) More connections than ever before. We're linking up with individuals all over the world who now pass us important information on a daily basis that we're sharing with you. Our followers in a variety of media have grown steadily throughout the past week, and this sharing network has turned the CC into one of the Internet's foremost sources of truth. We plan on keeping it that way.

3) More subscribers than ever before. This has probably been the most dramatic turnaround of all. In just the last few days alone, your subscriptions and donations have exploded, and the letters of encouragement and thanks are deeply appreciated, and this was after we came up short in our last fundraiser. It's been pretty miraculous. What means the most to us is the fact that you care enough about what we do to give, and you've given generously, ensuring we have the motivation and resources to stick around for a long time to come. We keep our friends close, and thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

A special thanks to the IDF during all this for motivating us to look deeper into the situation and challenge mainstream media demagoguery. More special thanks to the readers who stand by our side through thick and thin, and to those who put themselves in harm's way to get the truth out.

Shout outs to the especially stalwart, in no particular order:

Ten European states agree military air tanker cooperation

Ten European countries agreed on Monday to work together to boost their military air-to-air refueling capacity, to plug a gap in their defenses that was exposed by last year's Libyan war.

Europe's air forces have had a shortage of tanker aircraft for years. During the Libya campaign, European states relied heavily on the United States for air-to-air refueling, needed to enable fighter planes to stay in the air for longer.

The agreement was signed by Belgium, France, Greece, Spain, Hungary, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal and Norway, which is not a European Union member but works with the European Defence Agency (EDA), the EU's defence arm

Turkish Prime Minister: ‘Israel Is A Terrorist State’

A top Turkish official has claimed that Israel is committing acts of terrorism by bombing Hamas targets in Gaza.

Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan told the Eurasian Islamic Council conference in Istanbul that the Jewish state is systematically mass-killing Muslims.

“Those who associate Islam with terrorism close their eyes in the face of mass killing of Muslims, turn their heads from the massacre of children in Gaza,” Erdogan said, according to Reuters. “For this reason, I say that Israel is a terrorist state, and its acts are terrorist acts.”

Spain may offer residency to foreigners buying homes

Spain is considering offering rich investors from countries such as Russia and China the right to settle in return for them buying up property in the stagnant housing sector.

Spain has more than a million empty homes across the country and is setting up a bad bank to clean up toxic assets from a housing bubble which burst in 2008.

Foreigners could be offered a residency permit if they buy a property worth 160,000 euros ($200,000) or more, the country's commerce secretary said on Monday.

Rioters attack ethnic Somalis in Kenyan capital

Kenyan police fired tear gas to disperse rioters who attacked ethnic Somalis in the Nairobi district known as "Little Mogadishu" on Monday, hurling rocks and smashing windows after a weekend bomb attack there killed nine people.

The violence coincided with the start of voter registration for a general election in March, adding to security concerns ahead of the first national polls since 2007 when a dispute over the results fuelled ethnic slaughter that killed more than 1,200 people and forced some 300,000 from their homes.

Fiscal cliff could push jobless rate over 10 percent: Fitch

The "fiscal cliff" could trigger a second recession in the country's economy and push U.S. unemployment above 10 percent, ratings agency Fitch said on Monday.

Fitch said it did not expect Congress to allow the tax and spending cuts, which have been dubbed the "fiscal cliff", to fall into place given their "far-reaching effects."

The fiscal cliff would "dramatically affect demand" for transportation assets, Fitch said.

Iran reaches milestone at key nuclear plant

Iran is on the cusp of being able to triple output of nuclear material that, if further treated, could be used in the core of a bomb, a new UN atomic agency report showed.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) quarterly update said that fitting out of the Fordo plant was now "complete" -- despite extreme sanctions pressure.

Fordo, which Iran only told the IAEA about in 2009, began in 2011 to enrich uranium to purities of 20 percent, a process that lies at the heart of the international community's concerns.

Forget the Fiscal Cliff: Why Obama Is in Asia

It might seem strange that newly re-elected President Barack Obama has chosen this moment to jet off to Asia. After all, he’s left a mess of problems back home. The White House is in the midst of tense negotiations with Republican Congressmen over a budget compromise to avoid the looming “fiscal cliff.” The nation is still smarting from a long and divisive election. And even in the realm of foreign policy, Asia doesn’t seem to be the priority right now, with a conflict escalating between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.

Obama isn’t even visiting Japan or South Korea, historically America’s most important allies in Asia, or landing in China to deal with Washington’s many economic issues with the world’s second largest economy. Instead, he’s attending a summit in Cambodia of the leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and others from the region, and making the first visit by a U.S. President to Burma (also known as Myanmar). Over the weekend, he toured a Buddhist temple in Bangkok and chatted with Thailand’s King. Has Obama gotten his priorities all screwed up?

The answer is no. What might seem like a tropical vacation is in fact a major foreign policy initiative. Not only is Southeast Asia one of the most important regions for world economic growth, but it is also a key front in America’s geopolitical struggle with China for influence in Asia.

Cutting through IDF propaganda: Tanks caught on film lining up to fire haphazardly into Gaza

Commentary:
You'll remember that IDF spokespeople go on and on and on about "conducting only precision strikes against 'terrorist targets'". However, there are multiple reports, and now footage, of Israel simply firing haphazardly Gaza using artillery pieces and tanks. Little difference exists between rockets fired one way and artillery shells (that actually do far more damage) firing in the opposite direction. One wonders where MSM objectivity has gone in during this conflict.

David Cameron says European Union must stop 'picking the pockets' of its citizens......So why isn't he doing anything to stop them picking Our pockets?

David Cameron has challenged the European Union to stop “picking the pockets” of the public today after launching a diplomatic drive to win the support of other EU leaders for a freeze in spending by Brussels.

With three days to go to an EU summit to settle its 2014-20 budget, Downing Street disclosed the Prime Minister had “hit the phones” in an effort to find allies in what threaten to be tortuous and acrimonious negotiations.

U.S. embassy in Greece warns of rise in ‘unprovoked’ violent attacks on foreigners as neo-Nazi group grows

The United States is warning its citizens travelling in Greece about the recent wave of violent attacks on those who look like “foreign migrants” amid the rise of a neo-Nazi party in the economically beleaguered country.

“The U.S. Embassy informs U.S. citizens that the ‘Threats To Safety and Security’ section of the Greece country specific information page has been updated to inform U.S. citizens of a rise in unprovoked harassment and violent attacks against persons who, because of their complexion, are perceived to be foreign migrants,” an updated note on the U.S. embassy in Athens’ website said.

“U.S. citizens most at risk are those of African, Asian, Hispanic, or Middle Eastern descent in Athens and other major cities.”

Alabama town blames FEMA for slow aid after tornado...

Main Street in this old mill town looks about the same as it did the day after tornadoes killed about 250 people across Alabama a year and a half ago: Battered red bricks and broken glass litter the pavement, and the buildings still standing are rickety and roofless.

The entire one-block downtown, still deemed unsafe, remains sealed off by a chain-link fence. City officials blame the Federal Emergency Management Agency, saying the money to demolish skeletons of the old buildings is mired in miles of red tape.

Detroit Could Go Bankrupt Before End Of Year

''Detroit’s financial condition is rapidly deteriorating, and City Hall could run out of cash in December, an official told a state oversight board Monday.

City program management director William Andrews made the assessment at a meeting of the Financial Advisory Board, a city-state panel overseeing Detroit’s finances under its fiscal stability agreement with the state.

Detroit’s cash-flow crisis is “more challenging than it’s ever been and more challenged than we reported last month,” Andrews said.''

The speculation surrounding the sudden resignation of the CIA chief, General David Petraeus,
is focusing in large part on his role in an alleged cover up of the attacks against the U.S. mission in Benghazi this past September.

Perhaps being overlooked is the CIA’s possible role in purportedly using the Benghazi mission to coordinate U.S. aid to opposition insurgent groups acting in Syria amid information those same insurgents consist in significant part of jihadists, including groups openly acting under the al-Qaida umbrella.

One week before he was slated to testify before Congress on the Benghazi debacle, Petraeus on Friday night announced his resignation citing an extramarital affair.

Despite Global Opposition, United States Votes to Continue Cuban Embargo

In a near unanimous vote at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, the vast majority of the world voted to put an end the U.S. economic embargo against Cuba. Aside from the moral argument, the driving principles behind the vote to end the embargo were those regarding the sovereign equality of states, non-intervention in internal affairs, and the freedom of international trade and navigation. In total, 188 countries voted in favor of the resolution, with the U.S., Israel, and Palau voting against it, and the Marshall Islands and the Federated States of Micronesia abstaining. It was the twenty first consecutive year that the resolution passed by an overwhelming majority in the U.N. The last time the United States had normal relations with Cuba, the Andy Griffith Show was the most popular show on TV, African Americans couldn’t vote, McDonalds only had 228 locations, and Barack Obama would not be born for another year. It was indeed a different world.

Mount Ruapehu: Eruption fears rise at New Zealand's 'Mount Doom'

A New Zealand volcano that featured as Mount Doom in "The Lord of the Rings" movies is in danger of erupting as pressure builds in a subterranean vent, officials said on Monday.

The Department of Conservation (DOC) warned hikers to avoid the summit of Mount Ruapehu, saying that temperature readings by scientists indicated there was an increased risk of eruption at New Zealand's largest active volcano.

"The current situation can't continue, Ruapehu is so active that the temperatures have been going up and down a lot," DOC volcanic risk manager Harry Keys told Radio New Zealand.

Bloomberg extends gas rationing through Thanksgiving holiday as motorists prepare for travel chaos

Mayor Michael Bloomberg is extending the gas rationing system in New York City through the Thanksgiving holiday, which could make this historically difficult travel week more complicated than usual.

Bloomberg said that with 30 percent of stations still closed and a major travel week coming up, the extension would make sure there aren't the long lines that brought about the system in the first place.

'The odd-even license plate system has worked well and helped to reduce wait times and lines at the pump,' Bloomberg said, adding he wanted to 'ensure we do not risk going back to the extreme lines we saw prior to the system being implemented.'

EU plotting secret budget deal without UK David Davies calls for referendum

Brussels is plotting to secure a budget deal without Britain, it emerged today as pressure increased on David Cameron to block inflation-busting spending increases.

The Prime Minister today insisted insisted Brussels had to stop 'picking the pockets' of the public amid reports that EU officials and diplomats are in talks on the legal and financial viability of agreeing a new seven-year budget amongst the 26 member states excluding the UK.

Ahead of crunch talks this week, Tory minister Ken Clarke today signalled that Mr Cameron’s demand for a real-terms freeze in the vast budget was only a ‘starting point’ suggesting he could yet agree to an increase.

More children die in latest Israeli airstrike as charity warns hundreds of thousands of youngsters face food and water shortages in Gaza

Two children have been killed and several injured in the latest Israeli airstrike as a charity warns hundreds of thousands of youngsters trapped in Gaza face prolonged power cuts and depleting supplies of food and water.

Save the Children has called for an immediate end to the conflict between Israel and Gaza as fears grow that the situation will have a devastating affect on children who make up nearly half the 1.7 million population of the Gaza Strip.

Israel's Defense Forces (IDF) said it had targeted around 80 sites overnight as airstrikes continued to hit the enclave during the early hours of this morning as the violence entered its sixth day.

Lord McAlpine set to sue ITV for up to £500,000 (and there should be TEN THOUSAND Twitter users trembling in their boots)

The Tory peer's legal team is looking for 'substantially more' than the £185,000 damages already agreed with the BBC. The corporation's botched investigation, which erroneously linked Lord McAlpine (bottom left) to sexual abuse at a north Wales children's home, led to Phillip Schofield surfing the internet for names and then confronting David Cameron with them on This Morning (pictured above). Meanwhile the growing number of potential defendants facing libel action includes Sally Bercow and Alan Davies (both below left and right), making it the largest case in British legal history.

Weidmann wants strong German voice in Europe bank union

Bundesbank chief Jens Weidmann called on Monday for Germany to have a strong voice in Europe's planned banking union, adding that the European Central Bank's new banking supervisory role must be clearly separated from its monetary policy mandate.

Weidmann, who sits on the ECB's Governing Council, also said that banks should limit their exposure to government debt by backing up their sovereign debt holdings with sufficient capital and by introducing a cap for how much money a bank can lend to a state.

Congo rebels advance to outskirts of Goma

Rebels in Congo, who U.N. experts say are backed by neighboring Rwanda, reached the outskirts of the eastern city of Goma on Sunday after pushing back government troops, despite U.N. peacekeepers firing back from helicopter gunships.

The rebels, known as M23, are led by mutinying soldiers who rose up eight months ago, accusing the Democratic Republic of Congo's government of failing to respect a 2009 peace agreement to integrate insurgents from a previous rebellion into the army.

Five Chinese Street Children Found Dead In Bin

The bodies of five street children have been found inside a bin in southwest China after they climbed inside it to escape the cold, according to state media.

The boys, who were aged about 10, died of carbon monoxide poisoning after apparently burning charcoal inside the container to keep warm.

A refuse collector discovered the bodies in the city of Bijie in Guizhou province. The overnight low temperature in the mountainous city was 6C.

South African Found Guilty Of Dewani Murder

A judge finds South African Xolile Mngeni guilty of the murder of Anni Dewani while on her honeymoon in November 2010.

Judge Robert Henney told the High Court in Cape Town: "I'm satisfied that the accused has committed the crime of murder."

In his ruling, the judge dismissed claims by Mngeni's lawyer that his client had been set up for the killing. He found Mngeni guilty of murder and robbery, but acquitted him of kidnapping charges.

Prosecutors said Mngeni was hired to carry out the killing, which was made to look like a car hijacking in Cape Town's impoverished Gugulethu township.

Pictures Tell the Story: Aftermath of Hamas Rocket Attack Compared to Israeli Airstrike

As Israel and Hamas exchange “attacks” the world continues it’s debate over who the real aggressors actually are.

For their part, the Israeli government has hired literally thousands of paid trolls to spam social media and comment sections with pro Zionist rhetoric.

A photo posted to Facebook this morning paints a clear picture as to who is being hit the hardest and what the hardline Israeli governments self-defense looks like.

When you add the fact that a permanent truce was actually being negotiated before the strike that killed Hamas commander Ahmed Jabari, the true aggressor is revealed.

RESEARCHERS DOCUMENT WORLD-FIRST FIRE TORNADO

The world's first confirmed case of a fire tornado has been documented by Canberra researchers, using evidence collected from the devastating 2003 Canberra bushfires.

Researchers have long speculated about the ability of a fire to produce a tornado, but until now they have not been able to scientifically prove it.

The study involved collecting a vast quantity of evidence from the Canberra bushfires and has been published in the scientific journal Natural Hazards.
