Florida Gov. refuses to enact Obamacare

Speaking on the New College of Florida campus following a meeting of the state's university governing board, Scott said it will cost taxpayers and business owners too much to expand Medicaid and set up health insurance exchanges as called for under the law.

"No one has been able to show me that that health care exchange is going to do anything rather than raise taxes, raise the cost of our companies to do business," Scott said, adding that expanding Medicaid would also require tax increases.

Fuel oil spill contained in Port Angeles Harbor

What was initially believed to be an 840-gallon heavy fuel oil spill in Port Angeles Harbor early Wednesday turned out to be much smaller, state Department of Ecology officials said.

Despite earlier reports, the actual spill was between 50 and 100 gallons.

Iran says repelled unidentified plane from its airspace

Iran repelled an unidentified aircraft violating its airspace, it said on Friday, after Washington reported a U.S. surveillance drone was shot at by Iranian warplanes last week.

Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi appeared to be referring to the U.S. drone which the Pentagon said had not entered Iranian territory. The incident has underlined the risk of U.S.-Iranian tensions escalating into a military clash.

"Last week an unidentified plane entered the airspace above the territorial waters of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Persian Gulf which, due to the timely, quick and decisive action of the Iranian Armed Forces, was forced to flee," Iran's state-run Press TV quoted Vahidi as saying.

"Foreign reporters eye diverse issues at congress."
The spotlight focused on a photo of Julie Makinen, a reporter
for the LA Times, dressed in Peking Opera finery.
In her article, Makinen revealed how she was included
"in a propaganda piece" for the CCP authorities.

SEALS gave info to video game makers

Seven U.S. Navy SEALs have been reprimanded for giving up classified information connected to their tradecraft so a video game could seem more realistic, according to a navy official.

The seven were charged with the unauthorized showing of their official combat gear and dereliction of duty for disclosing classified material after an investigation found the seven to have worked as paid consultants for two days with the video game company Electronic Arts, according to a U.S. Navy official familiar with the investigation.

The work, done around the late spring and early summer, was unauthorized by their commanders and against military regulations according to the Navy official.

All seven are active duty members of SEAL Team 6

Image: The problems at the reactors come amid increased scrutiny following the crisis at the Fukushima plant in Japan

Tiny cracks have been found in tunnels at a nuclear plant in South Korea, increasing concerns about nuclear safety in the country following a recent scandal involving the use of unverified parts.

The reactor where the cracks were found will remain offline for weeks as regulators investigate the problem, putting extra strain on South Korea's already stretched power supply going into the winter months.

Syria Opposition Factions Balk at US-Backed Unity Plan, But Keep Talking

The clamor by Britain, France, Turkey and Arab powers for the U.S. to help provide more direct and even military support to Syria‘s rebellion only becomes a dilemma for the Obama Administration if the fractious Syrian opposition is united under a single leadership acceptable to the West. Without a credible address through which greater support could be channeled, it remains a non-starter—and some 20 months into a civil war that has claimed more than 20,000 lives, Syria’s opposition remains politically fragmented, while the armed insurgency is waged by scores of disparate and localized fighting groups.

Thus the effort, still underway Friday in Qatar’s capital, Doha, to forge a new leadership body uniting the forces most active on the ground in the political and military struggle behind a moderate political consensus. Predictably, perhaps, that goal is proving elusive after a week’s worth of talks.

Vaccine bombshell: Baby monkeys develop autism symptoms after obtaining doses of popular vaccines

Following a recent study conducted by scientists at the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania which revealed that many infant monkeys given standard doses of childhood vaccines as part of the new research, developed autism symptoms, question marks over the ultimate safety of vaccines have come to the fore.

The groundbreaking research findings presented at the International Meeting for Autism Research (IMFAR) in London, England, have revealed that young macaque monkeys given the typical CDC-recommended vaccination schedule from the 1990s, and in appropriate doses for the monkeys’ sizes and ages, tended to develop autism symptoms. Theirunvaccinated counterparts, on the other hand, developed no such symptoms, which points to a strong connection between vaccines and autism spectrum disorders.

Number of unprocessed immigration cases is same as population of Iceland: Border chiefs accused of 'camouflaging' the issue

Border chiefs were today accused of ‘camouflaging’ the true scale of an immigration backlog that was ‘spiralling out of control.’

The total number of immigration and asylum cases which have not been processed by the UK Border Agency now stands at more than 300,000 - the equivalent of a city the size of Sunderland - or the entire population of Iceland, the Home Affairs Committee said.

And it has also emerged that the UK Border Agency is set to grant an ‘amnesty’ to some 80,000 migrants as it struggles with a spiralling backlog of immigration cases.

Who do you think you are kidding Mrs Merkel? Britain would THRIVE if we left the EU...Shame Cameron doesn't see it that way

Shortly before her meeting with David Cameron on Wednesday, the German Chancellor told MEPs: ‘Being alone in a global population of seven billion isn’t good for Britain. You can be happy on an island, but you can’t be happy on your own.’

I suspect a fair number of us, hearing those remarks, will have muttered: ‘We’ll be the judges of what makes us happy, thank you, Frau Merkel. We managed perfectly well before the EU existed — and we’ll decide for ourselves whether to remain part of it.’

n the same speech, Chancellor Merkel repeated her call for a federal Europe, in which the European Commission would be the Cabinet, the European Parliament would be the legislature, and the national governments would form a kind of regional senate, like the German Bundesrat. Every EU state, she said, should join the euro.

Do we need to be part of a European state in order to sell to, and buy from, our neighbours? Neither Norway nor Switzerland is a member of the EU, but both are, in slightly different forms, full participants in the European single market.

Last year, Norway exported two-and-a-half times as much per head to the EU as we did, and Switzerland four-and-a-half times as much.

Tax hike for wealthy won't kill growth: CBO

Allowing income tax rates to rise for wealthy Americans, and maintaining rates for the less affluent, would not hurt U.S. economic growth much in 2013, the Congressional Budget Office said on Thursday, stepping into a dispute between Republicans and Democrats over how to resolve the so-called "fiscal cliff."

The report by the authoritative non-partisan arm of Congress is expected to fuel President Barack Obama's demand for higher taxes on the rich, part of his proposal to avoid the full impact of the expiring tax cuts and across-the-board spending reductions set to begin in early 2013 unless Congress acts.
