Iran slams anti-nuclear weapons treaty as discriminatory

Discriminatory implementation of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) has left many countries feeling that being a party to the anti-atom bomb pact hinders cooperation in the field atomic energy, Iran's U.N. ambassador said on Monday.

Western diplomats and analysts have long expressed concern that Iran might one day follow North Korea's example and pull out of the NPT and produce a bomb. North Korea withdrew from the treaty in 2003 and tested nuclear devices in 2006 and 2009.

Iran nuclear fuel move may ease war fears - for now.....Well at least until Wednesday!

A slowdown in Iran's accumulation of its most sensitive nuclear material may have helped put off the threat of a new Middle East war for now, but Tehran's expanding uranium-enrichment capacity suggests any relief could be short-lived.

Breaching Whale Lands On Boat Injuring Three

Three men have been injured, one seriously, after a breaching whale leapt out of the sea off South Africa and landed on their boat.

"The men claim they were motoring slowly off-shore when a whale breached in front of their boat and came onto their boat, causing the boat and all three men to go under water as the whale sunk back into the water," said Ian Gray, NSRI Port Elizabeth station commander.

Matt's projection for 2012 election outcome: Obama Victory

Reasons supporting this projection:

+ The "silent majority", regardless if it benefits them or not, leans towards the status quo, especially when undecided and faced with similarly empowered choices.

+ While having lost some of his charisma among Americans, Obama still remains friendly and charming enough to appear as one of the people, unlike Romney, who seems detached not only from Americans, but often from the realities facing the nation.

+ Hurricane Sandy caused many to forget about Romney and the momentum he once possessed, and in times of peril, people again turn to the status quo for its comforting familiarity, regardless if that status quo actually lifts them out of their trials.

+ A decade of war has made Americans leery of aggressive politicians beating drums, and dovish Obama remains the clear antidote to America's war weariness, versus Romney, who seems aggressive and spoiling for a fight.

+ Four years to correct Bush's mistakes, and four years to strike out on his own, a philosophy many hold when evaluating Obama's first term.

Reasons refuting this projection:

- Many undecided states still lurk in the union, and Obama still needs to lock down approximately 69 more electoral votes to win.

- After decades of financial warfare against the United States (and much of the Western world), China almost begs for a merciless beating, something Romney promises to deliver.

- Many Americans many no longer care about the President, the man, and see an idling economy and worsening conditions reason enough to vote for anyone other than Obama to shock the system back to life, regardless if such punishment-voting will work.

Of course, no one truly knows the outcome yet, and I can only offer an analysis based upon my observations. What do you guys think, who do you believe will win, and why?

Sandy Price Gouging Probed: $7 Loaf of Bread, $10 Box of Matches

More than 400 possible cases of price gouging of gasoline and other essentials, including a $10 box of matches and $7 loaf of bread, have been reported in New York before and after Sandy.

Reports are being investigated in New York City, the Hudson Valley and on Long Island by state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.

Schneiderman said Monday that he's investigating an increasing number of reports of spikes in prices for essential goods including gasoline, food, bottled water, generators, batteries and flashlights.

Obama loses endorsement of nation's first elected black governor

Former Gov. L. Douglas Wilder, who backed Democrat Barack Obama for president in 2008, did not endorse Obama or Republican Mitt Romney in an opinion column released days before the election.

"I have campaigned for and supported the president in the past and many people now want to discuss his job performance with me," Wilder writes in a column for Reuters.

"They often note that Obama ran as a moderate — and that is the man they threw their support behind in 2008. But some look back and say that he has governed as a left-of-center liberal who did not keep the focus squarely on jobs and economic recovery.

Russia planning massive Siberian gas pipeline to Pacific tidewater

Gazprom, Russia's state-owned gas company, is moving ahead with plans to ship much of its abundant natural gas to countries in Asia, creating more competition for the latest of Alaska's long-running dreams of exporting its own gas supply.

Part of Gazprom's plan involves tapping into a new Siberian gas field believed to hold 42 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, more than the 35 trillion cubic feet estimated to lie beneath Alaska's North Slope. Gazprom plans to build a 2000-mile-long pipeline to link that Chaynda deposit in the Yakutia region with Vladivostok on the Pacific Ocean, according to Bloomberg Businessweek.

''Herbert and Keiser moved to London a year ago. "Because this is the world capital of banking fraud. Pretty much every financial scandal of the past 20 years has had its main component in London, because it has the least regulated banking environment. What to do as the Germans secretly prepare to print euros

Sometimes the biggest stories are not the ones that get the most coverage. Not long ago I noticed an interesting item in the news. While it hasn’t made the headlines, it could have a big impact on markets – especially the gold price.

The central bank plot to keep gold prices down
As we noted in July, there’s a group of people known as the Gold Anti-Trust Association (GATA) who believe that the world’s central banks have been working to push down the price of gold, both to protect banks from a bad bet against gold prices and to disguise the inflationary effect of monetary policies. While the primary focus is on official sales, Marshall Auerback of Madison Street Partners believes that this might not tell the whole story.

British have invaded nine out of ten countries - so look out Luxembourg

Britain has invaded all but 22 countries in the world in its long and colourful history, new research has found.

Every schoolboy used to know that at the height of the empire, almost a quarter of the atlas was coloured pink, showing the extent of British rule.

But that oft recited fact dramatically understates the remarkable global reach achieved by this country.

Earthquake rattles northern New Jersey towns still reeling from Hurricane Sandy

Up to 40,000 New Yorkers could be forced to evacuate as nor'easter storm brings freezing temperatures, rain and wind to devastated East Coast

It is expected to hit New York and New Jersey with gusts of up to 55mph by Wednesday. The strongest winds are forecast for Long Island, with 40mph more likely for New York City. There is also the chance of more beach erosion, coastal flooding and trees weakened by Superstorm Sandy being felled.

Up to four inches of rain is expected along with snowfall in more inland mountainous areas and a tidal storm surge of up to 5ft is possible, forecasters say.

Osama bin Laden propaganda film released before election is called 'so bad, it won't sway anyone'... as Obama is given exaggerated starring role

Conservatives feared 'SEAL Team Six,' the film about the raid on Osama bin Laden's compound was an underhanded propaganda ploy by President Barack Obama's supporters.

But the made-for-TV movie, released two days before the elections, was a flop. When it debuted on Sunday, it was panned by TV critics as a 'dim and simple-minded work of fiction' -- incapable of swaying even the most ambivalent voters.

The movie was produced by one of Obama's biggest backers in Hollywood, Harvey Weisntein, who rushed it forward to ensure it debuted before November 6.

Has Irish firm found the biggest oil lake in U.S. history? Company drilling in Nevada could be sitting on 187 MILLION oil barrels

An Irish company has created huge excitement among investors after speculation that it could have discovered what could be the biggest oil find of its type in US history.

U.S. Oil and Gas, of Dublin, has been using ‘groundbreaking’ technologies for its first major drilling project in Hot Creek Valley, Nevada, with local media suggesting it is sitting on an enormous oil lake.

One well could generate a breathtaking 187million barrels of oil, reports suggested - although the company has insisted testing is not yet complete and the size of the oil field is not yet certain.

'Remember, remember the fifth of November': NBC and Lady Gaga websites hacked with cryptic 'Anonymous' messages about 17th century UK gunpowder plot

A mysterious hacker called 'pyknic' launched a cyber assault on NBC websites and a Lady Gaga fan site last night in 'celebration' of Guy Fawkes Night.

For several hours, websites promoting NBC shows such as Saturday Night Live, Jay Leno and Jimmy Fallon displayed messages such as 'Remember, remember the fifth of November - the gunpowder treason and plot.'

The attacks are thought to be linked to the cyber-attack group Anonymous, which often uses a Guy Fawkes mask from the film V for Vendetta as an emblem.

Regime Fears "Middle-Class Rebellion" in China?

The mass protest against the expansion of a chemical plant
has achieved initial victory in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province.
This was not the first time for the Chinese Communist Party
(CCP) to yield to Chinese protesters.
In the last few years in Dalian and Xiamen, citizen protests
forced authorities to halt planned chemical plant projects.
Cities of Ningbo, Dalian and Xiamen
are "better-off" cities in China.
Foreign media reviewed that "the authoritarian government
is scared of middle-class rebellion."
Scholars believe that the middle class becoming
a powerful force indicates that society is making a progress.

South Korea reactors shut over forgeries

South Korea said Monday that it had shut down operations at two nuclear reactors after discovering that they were using parts supplied with forged quality certificates.

Halting the reactors to replace the parts will result in "an unprecedented level" of strain on the nation's power supply as it heads into the winter months, the Ministry of Knowledge Economy said in a statement.
